Foreign trade deficit of Lithuania in I half-year 2008 increased by 4.8%
Print versionOver I half-year 2008 as compared with I half-year 2007, exports and imports increased, respectively, by 33.6 and 24.9%; mineral products excluded, exports and imports increased, respectively, by 15.9 and 7.4%.
The major impact on the growth of exports was made by the increase in exports of petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals (2.6 times), fertilisers (2 times), cereals (8.2 times). Imports grew due to the increased imports of crude petroleum and natural gas (2.5 times), natural calcium phosphates and crude sulphur (3.1 times), railway or tramway locomotives, rolling stock and parts thereof (4.9 times), fertilisers (2.4 times).
In June 2008 against May, exports and imports grew by, respectively, 9.4 and 6.2%; seasonally adjusted, exports and imports increased by, respectively, 4.5 and 4.1%.
In June 2008 against June 2007, exports and imports increased by, respectively, 35.6 and 23%.
Over I half-year 2008, the most important partners in exports were Russia (15%), Latvia (11.1%), Germany (7.5%) and Poland (6%). The most significant partners in imports were Russia (30.2%), Germany (11.7%), Poland (9.8%) and Latvia (5.2%).
The bulk of Lithuania’s exports over I half-year 2008 fell per mineral products (25.7%), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (10.4%), products of the chemical or allied industries (9.5%). The most significant share in imports fell per mineral products (29%), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (14.4%) and vehicles, aircraft, vessels and associated transport equipment (13.6%).
