Number of foreign tourists in Estonian has grown by 5% in 2008

In May, however, the year-on-year growth was even as much as 15%.
Director of the Association of Hotels and Restaurants Feliks Mägus stated that May this year was the best among the same months this millennium. “However, it is sad that the growth pace of domestic tourists has fallen by 18%,” noted Mägus, guessing that this reflects the current situation of the economy.
When speaking about summer months, Mägus noted that it is likely that moderate growth in foreign tourists will continue. The number of accommodated Finnish tourists is again growing, after a short decline period. This is partly due to Tallink and Viking Line bringing new vessels on the route, forcing both shipping companies to aggressively market Tallinn and the entire Estonia as tourism destination.
It can also be noted that Russian tourists have greater confidence in Estonia. At the same time, however, the number of accommodations of Russians is nearly ten times smaller than that of Finns.
Mägus noted that Estonia still lacks attractive tourism products that would make visitors interested in staying here for more than one night.
