74% of Lithuanians distrust the Seimas

In July 2008, Lithuanian residents trusted the Fire and Rescue Service most. 83% of all participants of a public survey expressed trust in the firefighters.

A lot of trust was shown to SoDra (74%), the Church (71%), the Bank of Lithuania (70%) and the national defence (64%), as well as the Constitutional Court (61%).

 

More than half of all respondents expressed trust in the Lithuanian media (56%), the Presidential Service (54 %) and the State Border Guard Service (52%).

 

The Lithuanian residents trust five more institutions than distrust them – commercial banks, the Special Investigation Service, trade unions, the State Audit and the State Security Department.

 

According to the results of the public survey conducted by the public research and marketing company Baltijos Tyrimai on June 27- July 9, people distrust the Seimas most. 74% of all respondents expressed distrust in the Seimas.

 

The Government cannot boast great results either: 67% of all residents distrust it.

 

More than half of all residents also distrust courts (57%) and the police (54%).

 

The trust in SoDra has advanced 6% over the month, that in the Lithuanian media grew 4% and that in the Bank of Lithuania, the Constitutional Court, the Special Investigation Court, the State Audit and customs – 3%.

 

Trust in the trade unions went down 4% over the month and that in the police slumped 3%.
