Youth unemployment in Estonia grew in June

In June 2010, 23% of newly registered unemployed persons were aged 16-24, writes LETA/Postimees Online. In May, 18% of the the newly registered unemployed persons were in that age group, reported the Unemployment Insurance Fund.

More than half of the young persons who registered as unemployed in June had basic education or vocational education based on basic school education. 22% of the young unemployed persons had comprehensive secondary education, 13% vocational secondary education and 10% higher education.

 

In June, the registered unemployment rate continued falling for the third month in a row – in three months, the number of registered unemployed persons has fallen by a total of 15%. At the same time, the decline in the registered unemployment in June was smaller than in May.

 

In June, 6,734 newly unemployed persons were registered and the registration was terminated in 10,368 cases, only half of whom terminated their unemployment status because they found new jobs.

 

As of end of June, there were 81,050 unemployed persons – this was 12.5% of the labour force from the age of 16 to pension age.
