Foreign trade deficit of Lithuania grew 2.8 times in January 2010

Statistics Lithuania reports that, based on non-final data obtained from customs declarations and Intrastat reporting data, exports in January 2010 amounted to LTL 3.1 billion, while imports – LTL 3.5 billion. Foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to LTL 0.4 billion, which is 2.8 times more than in January 2009. Data on trade with EU countries were adjusted after VAT returns data had been received.

In January 2010, against January 2009, exports decreased by 3.3%, while imports increased by 5.6%; mineral products excluded, exports decreased by 1.4%, while imports – by 7.3%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 2.5%, mineral products excluded – grew by 2.4%.

 

An impact on the decline in exports was made by an 8.7% decline in exports of petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, 19.3% – boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances, 72% – animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products, 33.5% – various chemicals. The increase in imports was influenced by a 38.6% increase in imports of crude petroleum, 56.2% – organic chemicals, 87.8% – fertilisers.

 

In January 2010, against December 2009, exports decreased by 16.9, imports – by 7.6%; mineral products excluded, exports decreased by 18.7, imports – by 19.6%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 10.3%; mineral products excluded, exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 9.2%.

 

In January 2010, the most important partners in exports were Russia (10.6%), Germany (9.5%), Latvia (9.2%), and Poland (8.3%), in imports – Russia (38.3%), Poland (8.5%), Germany (8.4%), and Latvia (5%).

 

In January 2010, the largest share in exports fell within mineral products (23.9%), products of the chemical or allied industries (9.6%), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (8.8%), in imports – mineral products (38.1%), products of the chemical or allied industries (12.1%); machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (9.7%).
