Government of Lithuania to pay most attention to job creation in 2010

On Wednesday, the Government of Lithuania approved of the amended priorities of the Government activities in 2010. In 2010, the fifteenth Government will pay most attention to four key priorities – creation of new jobs, reduction of unemployment and economic promotion, modernization of state administration and fight against corruption, structural adjustments in the areas of social welfare, health, education and energy.

According to Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius, last year, the main goal was to maintain financial stability. This year, most attention will be paid to the issues of job creation, the reduction of unemployment. "Even after the economy started to grow, the unemployment is not decreasing for some time already, therefore, the Government will pay most attention to the creation of new jobs," said the prime minister.

 

Setting its priorities for 2010, the Government pointed out that in the time of this unprecedented hardship, solidarity and social peace remained the key priorities. The priorities were set in order to implement the National Agreement, establishing the principles of economic recovery. The Government is convinced that the provisions of the agreement will ensure the prospects of long-term growth, informs LETA/ELTA.

 

The Government's decision also states that a number of other steps need to be implemented in 2010, and each members of the Ministers' Cabinet is responsible for the implementation of the Government's programme in certain areas assigned to them.

 

The ministries were commissioned to provide information on the progress in implementing the Government's priorities for 2010 by the end of each quarter.
