Estonian Institute of Economic Research: the year 2010 will be better for businesses in Estonia

Leading researcher of the Estonian Institute of Economic Research Leev Kuum stated that the year 2010 will be better for enterprises than the year 2009 has been, writes Äripäev.ee/LETA.

Leev Kuum.

“This is not a random estimation or my own personal belief – this is indicated by our surveys,” he explained, noting that the Institute of Economic Research studies the situation of enterprises on a monthly basis and compiles business barometer surveys.

“Entrepreneurs themselves estimate that their situation will improve in the next three months,” said Kuum. He elaborated that enterprises that deal with exports need to find new markets and secure their existing ones as the demand on the domestic market will remain at the level of the year 2009.

Kuum stated that the most important keyword for the year 2010 will be ‘recovery’. “As the year 2009 was the first crisis year, the year 2010 could also be called the second crisis year, but it would be better to state that it will be the year of economic invigoration,” he said.

“In the past two years, we lost 20% of our potential and now this will recover by 3-4% at a time,” noted the researcher.
