Deflation in Lithuania constituted 0.2% in August

Lithuania's consumer prices edged down by 0.2% in August 2020 from July, marking the second straight month of negative inflation, the country's statistics office said on September 8th, cites LETA/BNS.

The 12-year inflation rate rose to 1.3% last month, from 1% in July, but the average annual inflation rate ticked down to 1.7%, from 1.8%.

The monthly consumer price index was mostly driven down by lower prices for clothing and footwear, and vegetables. This was partly offset by higher prices for tobacco products, oils and fats, and fuels and lubricants.

The year-on-year rise was mostly due to increased prices at restaurants, cafes and similar food serving establishments, as well as for fruit, pharmaceuticals, dental services, waste collection, and medical services.

Prices for consumer goods fell by 0.4% in August from July and went down by 0.3% in year-on-year terms. Services prices ticked up by 0.2% month-on-month and were up by 4.7% year-on-year.
