Latvia's business environment is not bad - FICIL

BC, Riga, 19.06.2020.Print version
The business environment in Latvia is not bad but a number of things could still be improved, Zlata Elksnina-Zascirinska, CEO of PwC Latvia and a board member of the Foreign Investors' Council in Latvia (FICIL), said today in an interview to Latvian Radio.

"Compared to neighbor countries, Latvia's business environment is not bad," Elksnina-Zascirinska said.

At the same time, the FICIL representative noted that investors and entrepreneurs will always be asking for more. "We will always be asking and striving for the ideal or much better world," she said.

In Elksnina-Zascirinska's words, the problematic issues became even more pressing during the Covid-19 pandemic. They include the efficiency of the judiciary, problems with shadow economy and supervision in the construction sector, as well as the administrative burden on entrepreneurs.

"All these problems still remain," Elksnina-Zascirinska said.

The Foreign Investors’ Council in Latvia is a non-governmental organisation that brings together the largest companies from various countries and sectors that have made significant investments in Latvia, as well as thirteen foreign chambers of commerce, Stockholm School of Economics and French Foreign Trade Advisors.
