A year after graduating in Latvia, 81.4% former students are employed

At the end of 2018, as many as 81.4% of former students who had graduated from universities and colleges in Latvia in 2017 were employed, while 2.9% were jobless, writes LETA, according to the data released by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB).

At the same time, 8.2% of former students who had graduated in 2017 were economically inactive at the end of 2018. 


Representatives of the CSB indicated that graduates of the State Border Guard College and the Latvian National Defense College were leaders in terms of employment - a year after graduation all them were working. 


More than 90% of graduates of the  Fire Safety and Civil Protection College, State Police College, Riga Medical College of the University of Latvia, Rezekne Affiliate of the Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia, Riga Medical College No.1, as well as Riga College of Accounting and Finance.


Among Latvia's largest universities, the highest employment rate (89%) was recorded for graduates of the Latvian University of Life Sciences and Technology, following by the University of Latvia (85%) and Riga Technical University (81%).


Meanwhile, unemployment among graduates of 11 Latvian universities and colleges was 5.1%, or higher than the unemployment rate in Latvia's working-age population, and joblessness among graduates of 5 higher education institutions reached 10% in 2018.
