During the Covid-19 pandemic Latvians drinking more alcohol

In Latvia, the proportion of the population who are drinking more alcohol than usual during the Covid-19 pandemic has increased, representatives of the pharmacy chain BENU Aptieka told LETA, referring to the survey data conducted by the company.

A survey conducted from April 30 to May 3 found that 16% of the population had started drinking more alcohol than usual during the state of emergency, compared to 11% in a previous survey conducted in March.


At the same time, 44% of respondents noted that they had not noticed any significant changes in alcohol consumption in the last month, 11% drank less alcohol than usual during the crisis, and another 27% indicated that they did not use it at all.


Regarding the consumption of tobacco products, 23% mentioned that there was no change in consumption, 6% indicated that they smoke more than usual during the crisis, 4% - smoke less than usual, and 65% of respondents stated that they do not smoke.


The survey was conducted in cooperation with the on-line research company Gemius. 1751 residents were surveyed in it.
