Lithuania's foreign trade deficit narrowed by 42.7% in Q1

Lithuania's exports shrank by 0.5% in January-March 2020 from a year earlier to 7.053 billion euros, and its imports were down by 3.3% to 7.348 billion euros, the country's statistics office said on May 8th, cites LETA/BNS.

Exports of Lithuanian-origin goods alone dropped by 2.9% to 4.199 billion euros. Lithuania's first-quarter foreign trade deficit narrowed by 42.7% year-on-year to 295.4 million euros, based on non-final data.


Excluding mineral products, overall exports grew by an annual 3.7% and imports went up by 1.1%. Exports of Lithuanian-origin goods alone increased by 2.6%.


Lithuania's key export partners were Russia with 13.4% of the total exports, Latvia with 9.3%, Germany with 8.4% and Poland with 7.3%.


Russia also topped the import rankings with 12.7% of the total imports, followed by Germany with 12.1%, Poland with 12.1%, and Latvia with 7.3%.


The key export markets for Lithuanian-origin goods were Germany with 10.6%, Poland with 8%, Latvia with 6.9%, Sweden with 6.8%, and the United States with 6.2%.
