Unemployment in Lithuania down in April 2008

In the end of April 2008, there were 97,500 jobseekers in Lithuania, 4.6% of the entire working age population. This index stood at 4.7% in March 2008.

According to the data presented by the Lithuanian Labor Exchange, on May 1 the highest number of jobseekers was in Druskininkai (9.5%), Akmene (8.9%), Jurbarkas (8.7%), Ignalina (8.6%) and Rokiskis (8.1%) municipalities. The number of jobseekers was the lowest in Elektrenai (1.6%), Neringa (1.8%), Trakai and Kazlu Ruda (2.3%) municipalities.

 

Since the beginning of 2007, 72,900 jobseekers were recorded on the Lithuanian Labor Exchange. In April this figure exceeded 17,400 jobseekers.

 

This year, the Lithuanian Labor Exchange helped 41,200 people find jobs, and directed another 12,100 people to labor market programs.

 

In April, there were 21,200 vacancies recorded on the Labor Exchange, an increase of 6.2% compared to the previous month.
