Foreign trade in goods in October 2018

Statistics Lithuania informs that, based on non-final data obtained from customs declarations, Intrastat reporting and VAT returns data, exports in October 2018 amounted to EUR 2.71 billion, imports – EUR 3.05 billion. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin amounted to EUR 1.65 billion. The foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to EUR 0.33 billion.

Over the month (October, against September), exports increased by 18.7%, imports – 19%. The increase in exports was influenced by an increase in exports of petroleum products (26.9%), machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof (25.3%), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (18.2%). The increase in imports was determined by an increase in imports of crude petroleum (28.7%), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (26%), machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof (21.3%). Mineral products excluded, exports increased by 17.8, imports increased by 17%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 15.7 per cent, mineral products excluded – 12.6%.


Over the year (October 2018, against October 2017), exports increased by 15.1, imports – 21.6%. The increase in exports was influenced by an increase in exports of petroleum products (26.4%) (amount in tonnes increased by 1.3%), plastics and articles thereof (23.6%), tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (59.2%). The increase in imports was determined by an increase in imports of crude petroleum (97.4%) (amount in tonnes increased by 24.6%), ground vehicles (14.1%), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (10.1%). Mineral products excluded, exports increased by 13.1, imports – 11.5%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 18.9%, mineral products excluded – 14.7%.


In January–October 2018, against the same period of 2017, exports and imports increased by 8.5 and 10.1% respectively. The increase in exports was determined by an increase in exports of petroleum products (12.1%) (amount in tonnes decreased by 9.7%), tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (45%), miscellaneous chemical products (57.4%). The increase in imports was determined by an increase in imports of crude petroleum (42.1%) (amount in tonnes increased by 0.2%), ground vehicles (14.7%), organic chemical products (20.4%). Mineral products excluded, exports increased by 7.8, imports – 6%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 11.3%, mineral products excluded – 9.5%.


In January–October 2018, the most important Lithuania’s partners in exports were Russia (13.8%), Latvia (9.9%), Poland (8.2%) and Germany (7.4%), while in imports – Russia (15%), Germany (12%), Poland (11.3%) and Latvia (6.8%). Most of the goods of Lithuanian origin were exported to Germany (9.2%), Poland (9.1%), the United States (8.3%), Latvia (7.8%) and Sweden (7%).


In January–October 2018, the largest share in Lithuania’s exports and imports fell within mineral products (15 and 21.7% respectively), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (15.1 and 17% respectively) and products of the chemical and allied industries (10.6 and 11.5% respectively). As for the goods of Lithuanian origin, the largest share in exports fell within petroleum products (20.5%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (11.3%), prepared foodstuffs, beverages, spirits and tobacco (9.2%), plastics and articles thereof (8.1%).
