Lithuania climbed to 18th place, from 27th a year ago, among 190 countries across the globe in terms of the ease of paying taxes, according to the latest study by PwC and the World Bank Group. Lithuania, however, is outperformed by both Latvia, ranked at number 13 in the Paying Taxes 2018 report, and by Estonia, at number 14, reports LETA/BNS.

According to the study, it takes 109 hours per year for a medium-sized business in Lithuania to prepare, file and pay taxes, below the EU and EFTA average of 161 hours. Some 168 hours are needed in Latvia and just 50 in Estonia.

The total tax rate that a medium-sized company pays in Lithuania remained unchanged from a year ago at 42.7% and labor taxes continued to make up the largest part of the tax burden, at 35.2%.

The global ranking this year is topped by the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Hong Kong.
