Openness has always been a key factor of the Estonian economy's success and thanks to that Estonia has achieved a lot, starting from the free movement of goods and money and ending with the membership of the European Union and NATO, Prime Minister Juri Ratas said on Tuesday in an opening speech at a seminar of the World Economic Forum titled "Connecting Digital Ecosystems in Europe", cites LETA/BNS.

"A small country needs to have friends and allies across the world and taking part in the activities of the World Economic Forum definitely offers great opportunities for expanding the network of our country's friends. Therefore it is important for us to contribute to the work of the forum," Ratas was quoted by spokespeople as saying at the forum.

"There is a saying in English - sharing is caring. It is a principle we have followed also when building our e-state and it has been the key to our success. We have learned a great deal from others over the years and we gladly pass our experience forward," Ratas said.

According to the head of government, EU heads of state affirmed at the summit in Tallinn in September that in the future the common market is also digital. In addition to the free movement of goods and services, data and e-services move across borders.

"Europe must be open to innovation and support fair competition is order to encourage the private sector to develop innovative products and modern services. The European economy can grow only based on digital technologies, being based on science and close cooperation," the prime minister said.
