Baltics register highest annual inflation in EU in September

The Baltic states registered the highest annual inflation among other EU member states in September 2017, writes LETA, according to the latest Eurostat report.

Lithuania recorded the highest inflation (4.6%), followed by Estonia (3.9%), and Latvia (3%).

 

Further the highest inflation rates were reported by Austria (2.6%), Hungary and the Czech Republic (2.5% each), and Luxembourg (2%).

 

The slowest consumer price rise was registered in Cyprus (0.1%), Ireland (0.2%), and Finland (0.8%).

 

The average annual inflation in the EU was 1.8%, while consumer prices in the euro area increased 1.5% year on year.

 

Compared to August, consumer prices in the EU and eurozone increased 0.4%.

 

Consumer prices in Latvia increased 0.2% month-on-month. Consumer prices rose 0.8% in Lithuania, while Estonia’s month-on-month deflation was 0.2%.

 

The highest month-on-month inflation was reported in Italy (1.8%), Austria (1.4%) and Greece (1.2%), while the biggest deflation was registered in Malta (-0.9%), Cyprus (-0.8%), and Ireland (-0.6%).

 

Data for the United Kingdom for September 2017 were not available.
