Nearly one fourth of people in Latvia, or 24%, have used services of financial technology (FinTech) companies over the past couple of years, representatives of the Alternative Financial Services Association of Latvia told LETA citing the association’s survey.

Asked about reasons for choosing FinTech services, 56% of respondents who had used such services said it was no longer necessary to visit banks, 40% cited more convenient digital solutions and 33% said FinTech made services simpler and easier to understand. Also, 19% of respondents said they liked to try out new technology services, eight% said they supported new businesses and six% said FinTech companies provided better and less costly services.

The survey revealed that 52% of young respondents, aged 18 to 24, chose FinTech services because of more convenient digital solutions, while 96% of respondents aged between 64 and 74 appreciated the opportunity to carry out their transactions remotely.

“This year’s survey shows that the number of people using a FinTech company’s services has grown against last year. The trend is expected to further increase with the development of financial technology,” said the association’s head Gints Aboltins.

SKDS market and public opinion research center conducted the survey, polling 679 residents of Latvia, aged 18 to 74.
