Usage of mobile data abroad up in Lithuania in August

BC, Vilnius, 09.10.2017.Print version
The usage of Lithuanian mobile connection data abroad continued growing in August 2017, shows data from the three largest mobile operators. The growth was a result of users taking vacations abroad, as well as the new roaming regulation rules in effect in the European Union (EU) since mid-June that unified prices for services on domestic and foreign markets, informs LETA/BNS.

"Clients will soon fell no difference whatsoever between browsing at home or abroad, our forecast is that proportional mobile data usage abroad will be even bigger than in Lithuania – while traveling, clients create more content, including photographs, videos, etc., which they post on social media. Business clients also do more work on mobile Internet while traveling," Arunas Mickevicius, marketing chief at Bite Lietuva, told BNS.

Bite Lietuva's clients used 29.6 million GB of data in August, up by a factor of 4.9 year-on-year (6.07 mln GB) and by 14.3 percent month-on-month (25.9 mln GB).

Clients of Tele2 used 50.1 million GB of data while traveling in EU countries in August, which is an increase by a factor of 15.5 from August of 2016 (3 mln GB) and by 40.7 percent from July (35.6 mln GB).

Telia Lietuva's clients used 30.4 million GB of mobile data in EU countries, Norway and Switzerland in August, soaring by 98.8 percent year-on-year (15.3 mln GB) but dropping 5.7 percent month-on-month (32.3 mln GB).

The new Roam Like At Home regulation enforced in mid-June envisages that prices for services in another EU country should be the same as on the home market.
