Riga Food Forum-2017: improved nutrition and sustainable consumption

Eugene Eteris, BC, Riga, 06.09.2017.Print version
Each year in September Latvian capital Riga is hosting international food forum. It is both an opportunity for professionals in the food industry to show their latest achievements and to attract new customers. For visitors, it is a chance to see and taste various food, drinks and beverages, as well as make contacts with potential supplies. This year “Riga Food Forum” takes place from 6 to 9 September on Kipsala.

Food industry professionals from the EU states (Estonia, Lithuania, Germany, Poland, etc.) and other countries (Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, etc.) have been gathering this year in the Latvian capital Riga with the view of promoting their products in new and most successful goods on the market. Exhibition’s participants (local and visiting) could learn about the latest developments in food and beverages production, processing, packaging solutions, latest technologies in stores and public catering enterprises and services.

Stimulating successful contacts for forum’s participant and visitors, the exhibition was divided into thematic zones. https://www.tradefairdates.com/Riga-Food-M3613/Riga.html

Improved nutrition

Global leaders have recognized 17 most important world’s issues to be resolve by 2030. They are called Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs. Thus, food security and improved nutrition has been among most vital for humanity. For the first time in a world’s history, the adoption of SDGs served as a landmark decision, providing for a shared global vision towards sustainable development for all.

There are two SDGs connected to food: SDG-2, which envisages “achieving food security, improved nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture”; and SDG-12, which is about “ensuring sustainable consumption and productive patterns”. The forum’s participants delivered on both SDGs.

Masters of Latvijas Maiznieks, a famous Latvian bread producer’s company, are baking tasty bread using highest quality flour and generously adding olives, pumpkin and sesame seeds, other seasonings, tomatoes, carrots and other “aromas”, which have caught the fancy tastes of any consumer (see photo-1). Each loaf of bread, as a manager said is baked “in the warm furnace with the warm-heartedness and master’s love”. See: www.maiznieks.lv/siltas.

Then, the first Ukrainian producer of noodles with the health-improvement effect and the plant additives is (MAK-VAR Foods). Among such additives are used ingredients of degreased seeds of pumpkin, flax, milk thistle, some other vegetables and grain’s embryo; these products are patented. See: www.mak-var.com.ua

PROMO “Cash & Carry” has become a popular method of marketing in Latvia, where customers themselves select all items and make payment in cash. “Cash & Carry” are those types of stores where goods are visibly available and/or in larger quantities. They say that only in promo Cash Carry store network one can find selected goods for professionals, including fast and frozen foods, chemistry and hygiene products, beverages, tobaccos, etc. See more at www.cashcarry.lv. At this stall in the exhibition, a popular Latvian chef Denis Ivankov made some miracles in cooking delicious dishes out of available stuff and with his own imagination. I tried some of them, they all tasted wonderful!

Newcomers

Another newcomer that attracted our attention has been a Spanish company producing olive oil “Palacio-de los-Olivos” (see photo). Two company managers said that olive harvesting was taking place yearly in November, when olives were at their optimal ripeness. Cold grounding is performed through mechanical procedures and after strict production control the company has a highest quality extra virgin olive oil. The company’s products have been awarded internationally (Quality seal SIQEV) for high level of excellence. See: www.olivapalacios.es.

Riga-Food exhibition this year is turning into a forum for international food sector business; it is a good opportunity to make contacts among representatives from various countries, exchange information and expand business opportunities.
