Baltics show highest share of budget expenditure on education in EU

The Baltic states show the highest share of budget expenditure on education among the EU members, according to Eurostat data for 2015, cites LETA/BNS.

Latvia allocates 16.2% of its budget expenditure on education, which is the biggest share among EU members. Lithuania allocated 15.4%, and Estonia – 15.1%.

 

EU members on average allocated 10.3% of budget expenditure on allocation.

 

At the lowest end there was Greece with 7.8%, Italy with 7.9%, and Romania with 8.6%.

 

Meanwhile, in terms of share of the gross domestic product, in 2015 Latvia’s allocation on education reached 6%, which is above the average in the EU or 4.9%.

 

In 2015 Latvia allocated a total of EUR 1.46 billion on education.

 

The highest share of GDP on education was registered in Denmark (7.03%), Sweden (6.5%), Belgium (6.4%), Finland (6.2%), and Estonia (6.1%). On the other end there was Romania (3.1%), Ireland (3.7%), Bulgaria and Italy (4% each).

 

Lithuania in 2015 allocated 5.4% of GDP on education.
