Only Estonia saw households' expenses rise in Baltics in July

The dynamics of average monthly household expenses was different in the three Baltic countries in July 2017, with downward movements compared with the preceding month registered in Latvia and Lithuania and a minor increase in Estonia, it appears froma survey by Baltic Market Insights (Baltmi), cites LETA/BNS.

Average household expenses in Estonia rose 0.4% on month to 508 euros. In Latvia, average household expenses dropped 1.7% to 396 euros and in Lithuania 2.1% to 381 euros.

 

The cost of the average basket of purchases also changed differently. In Estonia, a reduction by 3.3% to 14.7 euros and in Latvia by 5.2% to 10 euros were registered. In Lithuania, the indicator was up 1.6% at 11.9 euros.

 

In the meantime, the average number of shop visits per household increased by 3.8% to 34.7 visits in Estonia and by 3.7% to 39.7 visits in Latvia. In Lithuania, a drop of 3.7% to 32 visits was registered.

 

According to the survey, the overall purchasing habits across the Baltic countries remain unchanged, with Estonia leading for average monthly expenses and Latvia for the frequency of shop visits.

 

The survey of average monthly expenses per household evaluates expenses for food, drinks, non-food, tobacco products, medications, entertainment and petrol, leaving aside expenses for utilities and services.
