Retail sales increased slightly in EU in June

The seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade rose 0.5% in the eurozone and 0.4% in the European Union in June 2017, compared to the previous month. Retail sales increased by 3.1% year over year in June in both zones, it appears from figures published by Eurostat on Thursday, cites LETA/BNS.

Croatia saw the biggest increase, 5.8%, in retail sales compared to the previous month, while Portugal registered an increase of 2.4% and Slovenia 1.7%. Retail sales decreased the most in Lithuania by 1.7%, in Latvia by 0.8% and in Bulgaria by 0.5%. Retail trade in Estonia rose 1.1% in June 2017 compared to May 2017 and 4% compared to June 2016.

 

Retail sales increased most year over year in Slovenia by 10.2%, in Croatia by 8.2% and in Slovakia by 8.1%. Luxembourg registered a 25.8% decrease year over year in June.

 

The eurozone registered a monthly increase of 1% in the sales of automotive fuel, a 0.7% increase in the sales of food, drinks and tobacco products and a 0.3% increase in the sales of non-food products.

 

The retail sales of automotive fuel increased 3.7% year over year in June, while the sales of food, drinks and tobacco rose 2% and the sales of non-food products rose 3.9%.
