Riga has been ranked the world’s 126th most expensive location and the cost of living in the Latvian capital is significantly higher than in the other two Baltic capitals – Tallinn and Vilnius, a survey by Mercer Human Research Consulting shows.

In the annual Cost of Living Survey, covering 209 cities of the world, Tallinn has been ranked the 160th most expensive city and Vilnius has placed 167th.

Last year, the Latvian capital city was ranked 114th most expensive city, while Tallinn was in 150th and Vilnius in 167th place.

This year, Angolan capital Luanda has regained its position as the world’s costliest city, leaving last year’s leader Hong Kong in second position.

The survey measures the cost of living in 209 cities on the five continents, based on the prices of more than 200 goods and services, including rent, food, clothing, household goods, transport and entertainment.
