Lithuanian exports in April 2017 amounted to 2 bln

Statistics Lithuania informs that, based on non-final data obtained from customs declarations, Intrastat reporting and VAT returns data, exports in April 2017 amounted to 2 bln, imports – EUR 2.3 bln. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin amounted to EUR 1.1 bln. The foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to EUR 316.8 mln.

Over the month (April 2017, against March), exports decreased by 12.3, imports – 6.6%. The decrease in exports was influenced by a decrease in exports of petroleum products (11.6%), furniture (18.3%) and fertilisers (34.8%). The decrease in imports was influenced by a decrease in imports of ground vehicles (24%), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (10. %) and pharmaceuticals (15%). Mineral products excluded, exports decreased by 12.4, imports – 11.3%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 14.2 %, mineral products excluded – 16%.


Over the year (April 2017, against April 2016), exports increased by 9.4, imports – 10.7%. The increase in exports was influenced by an increase in exports of petroleum products (46.2%) (amount in tons increased by 3.7%), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (19.2%) and ground vehicles (35%). The increase in imports was determined by an increase in imports of crude petroleum (72.1%) (amount in tons increased by 16%), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (21.4%), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (13.1%). Mineral products excluded, exports increased by 6.1, imports – 5.5%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 12.3%, mineral products excluded – 3.3%.


In January–April 2017, against the same period of 2016, exports and imports increased by 15.4 and 17.4% respectively. The increase in exports was determined by an increase in exports of petroleum products (47.9%) (amount in tons decreased by 4.8 %), machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (21.2%), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (15.9%). The increase in imports was influenced by an increase in imports of crude petroleum (90.9%) (amount in tons increased by 6.9%), ground vehicles (13%), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (15%). Mineral products excluded, exports increased by 11.4, imports – 10.9%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin increased by 16.5%, mineral products excluded – 9%.


In January–April 2017, the most important Lithuania’s partners in exports were Russia (13.5%), Latvia (9.7%), Poland (8.7%) and Germany (7.5%), while in imports – Russia (13.4%), Germany (11.7%), Poland (10.5%) and Latvia (7.3%). Most of the goods of Lithuanian origin were exported to Germany (9.6%), Poland (9%), the United States (8.5%), Sweden (7.6%) and Latvia (7.1%).


In January–April 2017, the largest share in Lithuania’s exports and imports fell within mineral products (14.6 and 20.8% respectively), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (15.2 and 17.5% respectively) and products of the chemical and allied industries (10.6 and 12.2% respectively).  As for the goods of Lithuanian origin, the largest share in exports fell within petroleum products (19.2%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (11.9%), prepared foodstuffs, beverages, spirits and tobacco (8.9%), products of the chemical and allied industries (7.9%).
