Latvia made biggest scientific success in pharmaceuticals

Print versionA half or 50 % of Latvia's population think that so far the country's biggest scientific achievements in creation of internationally appreciated innovations have been made in the field of pharmaceuticals, according to a public opinion poll carried out by SKDS pollster reported LETA.

Also, 41% of respondents said that Latvia's biggest
scientific achievements have been made in medicine and 28% mentioned the IT
sector.
The poll showed that respondents with higher education and
jobs as well as respondents with high and medium-high income tend to be better
informed about scientific innovations.
"The results of the poll clearly demonstrate that, in
the opinion of the Latvian public, the related fields of pharmaceuticals and
medicine are those in which Latvian scientists have been most successful,"
said Arnis Kaktins, the head of SKDS.
The poll was conducted in March 2017 among 1,003 residents
of Latvia aged 18-74 years across the country.
