Industrial production in Latvia grew by 10.6%

Latest data compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that, compared to February 2016, in February 2017 industrial production output increased by 10.6% (according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices). Increase was recorded in manufacturing (of 4.6 %), mining and quarrying (11.2%) and electricity and gas supply (28.4%) (rise in the volume of electricity produced in combined heat and power plants and gas supply to consumers).

Compared to February of the previous year, the most notable industrial production output increase was recorded in sectors manufacturing high- and medium-high-technologies: manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (of 34.8%), manufacture of chemicals and chemical products (24.7%), manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (17.4%), manufacture of machinery and equipment (15.7%), as well as manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations and manufacture of other transport equipment. Significant output growth was observed also in manufacture of wearing apparel and manufacture of beverages – of 13.9% and 10.4%, respectively.


Notable industrial production output reduction, in its turn, was registered in proportionally largest sectors: manufacture of food products (of 4.2%) and manufacture of wood and of products of wood (1%). Output decline was registered also in printing and reproduction of recorded media (of 5.9%) and manufacture of paper and paper products (5.4%).


Compared to January, in February 2017 industrial production output grew by 3.3% (according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices); of which in manufacturing by 0.4%, in electricity and gas supply by 10.7%, whereas in mining and quarrying there was a decline of 2.2%.
