Latvia among countries reporting stable export in 2016

Latvia last year was one of the six EU member states in which exports in 2016 remained at the same level as in 2015, according to the latest Eurostat data.

According to Eurostat, export levels remained unchanged in Latvia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden.


Six other countries reported a drop in exports – the UK (-11%), Luxembourg (-8%), Finland (-3%), Lithuania and Greece (-2%) and France (-1%).


The remaining 16 EU member states saw a rise in exports, with the biggest increase in Malta (+17%), Croatia (+6%) and Romania (+5%). Estonia reported a 2% rise in exports.


Imports last year dropped in nine EU member states, including Luxembourg (-7%), Lithuania (-3%), Belgium and Netherlands (-2%), also Latvia, Bulgaria, Italy, Ireland and Spain reported a 1% drop in imports.


Imports remained flat in Denmark, France and Finland, while 16 countries reported a rise, including Cyprus (+16%), Malta and Romania (+7%), Croatia (+6%), as well as Estonia and Slovakia (+3%).
