Gross earnings in the whole economy in Lithuania grew by 2.8% over Q3

Statistics Lithuania informs that in III quarter 2016 average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy (excl. individual enterprises) totalled EUR 793.3: in the public sector2– EUR 806.6, in the private – EUR 786.7. Against II quarter 2016, average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy increased by 2.8%: in the public sector – by 3, in the private – by 2.7%.

Average net monthly earnings in the whole economy amounted to EUR 615.9 and, against II quarter 2016, grew by 2.5 %: in the public sector – EUR 625.4 (grew by 2.7%), in the private – EUR 611.3 (grew by 2.4%).


In III quarter 2016, against II quarter 2016, real earnings in the whole economy grew by 3.2%: in the public sector – by 3.4, in the private – by 3.1%.


The increase in earnings in III quarter 2016, against II quarter, was determined by seasonality, increased minimum monthly wage (EUR 380 since June 1), increased wages for healthcare workers, and other factors.


 

Over the year, gross earnings in the whole economy grew by 7.9%


In III quarter 2016, against III quarter 2015, average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy increased by 7.9%: in the public sector – by 6.8, in the private – by 8.6%.


Over the year, average net monthly earnings in the whole economy increased by 8.2%: in the public sector – by 7.2, in the private – by 8.9%.


Over the year, real earnings in the whole economy increased by 7.4%: in the public sector – by 6.5, in the private – by 8.1%.


The increase in earnings in the said period was influenced by larger volumes of work, increased minimum monthly wage (since January and 1 July 2016), increased wages for healthcare workers (since July 1), and other reasons.

A more rapid increase in net than in gross earnings was influenced by the change in the procedure for the calculation of the tax-exempt amount of income and increased additional tax-exempt amount of income, set in the Law on Personal Income Tax of the Republic of Lithuania, from 1 January 2016.



In III quarter 2016, an increase in gross earnings was observed in most economic activities


In III quarter 2016, against II quarter 2016, average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy1 increased in most economic activities: from 1.2% (in water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation) to 7.4% (in agriculture, forestry and fishing). A decrease in average gross monthly earnings was observed in four economic activities: financial and insurance activities – by 2.8, electricity gas, steam and air conditioning supply – by 1.7, mining and quarrying – by 1.4, information and communication – by 0.2%.


Over the year, average gross monthly earnings in the whole economy grew in all economic activities.



In III quarter 2016, the average number of employees decreased by 0.2 %


In III quarter 2016, against II quarter 2016, the average number of employees in the whole economy decreased by 2.1 th. (0.2%): in the public sector – decreased by 5.8 th. (1.5%), in the private – increased by 3.7 th. (0.4%).


Over the year (III quarter 2016, against III quarter 2015), the average number of employees in the whole economy increased by 12.9 th. (1.1%). It was conditioned by an 18.9 th. (2.3%) increase in the average number of employees in the private sector. In the public sector, the average number of employees decreased by 6 th. (1.6%).
