More than 60% of employees in Latvia are dissatsified with their wage

Even though in the past three years there has been a positive trend in employee satisfaction with their wages, still more than 60 % of employees in Latvia believe they are not paid appropriate wage, according to a poll conducted by CV-Online Latvia recruitment company informs LETA.

The share of dissatisfied employees in Estonia is 65%, while in Lithuania it is more than 80%. In each of the Baltic states there are less than 1% of emoployees that think that their wages are too high.


The poll also suggests that 39% of employees in Latvia feel that their wages are proportionate to their contribution in work compared to 34% in Estonia and 19% in Lithuania.


Compared to a similar survey conducted in the fall of 2013, the share of people satisfied with their wage rose by 13% in Latvia, 14% in Estonia and dropped by 2% in Lithuania.


The majority of people in Latvia who are dissatisfied with their wage work in education and science, health and social care, public catering, security and rescue and services and trade sectors. People satisfied with their salaries mostly work in human resources, IT, electronics/telecommunications, and banking sectors.


CV-Online Latvia head Aivis Brodins said that the satisfaction with wage is directly linked with the position at job. People with higher positions more often admit that their wage is appropriate. 61 % of the top managers were satisfied with their wage, compared to 42 % of lower-level managers, 38 % of people working in assisting positions. At the same time, 82 % of low-qualified workers think that their wages are too low.


The online survey was conducted between September 20 and October 2, polling 10,290 respondents across the Baltic states - 1,555 in Latvia, 2,115 in Lithuania and 6,620 in Estonia.
