Latvia slips down to 49th place in Global Competitiveness Index

atvia ranks 49th in the latest Global Competitiveness Index by the World Economic Forum, having slipped down from the 44th position last year.

This year Latvia still lags behind its Baltic neighbors as Lithuania ranks 35th, up one notch from last year, and Estonia ranks 30th or the same position as last year.


The Global Competitiveness Index is based on three sub-indices - basic requirements in which Latvia was ranked 41st, efficiency enhancers (42nd) and innovation and sophistication factors (58th). The respective rankings of the neighboring countries this year are 35th, 36th and 43rd for Lithuania and 20th, 28th and 33rd for Estonia.


 The World Economic Forum today published the Global Competitiveness Report 2016-2017, an annual assessment of the factors driving productivity and prosperity in 138 countries.
