In the 2nd quarter employment rate reached 61.8 % in Latvia

Results of the Labour Force Survey conducted by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) show that in the 2nd quarter of 2016 in Latvia there were 898.5 thousand employed persons or 61.8 % of the population aged 15–74.

During the year, the employment rate grew by 0.9 percentage points, and the number of employed persons increased by 0.3 thousand. Compared to the 1st quarter, in the 2nd quarter of 2016 the employment rate went up by 0.8 percentage points and the number of employed persons – by 9.3 thousand. Compared to the previous quarter, the most notable increase in the number of employed persons was recorded in accommodation and food service activities, agriculture, forestry and fishing, as well as construction.


Since the end of 2012 employment rate in Latvia has exceeded the EU average (58.2% in the 1st quarter of 2016), however in the 2nd quarter of 2016 the indicator was the lowest among the Baltic states – 66.9% in Estonia and 62.5% in Lithuania.
