Lithuania and Latvia see decline in exports

Among the three Baltic states, Lithuania and Latvia saw a decline in exports in the first half of 2016, as compared with the same period last year, Eurostat said. Exports remained stable in Estonia over the period, reports LETA/BNS.

In Lithuania, exports shrank by 2% to 10.7 bln euros in January-June of 2016 year-on-year, dropping by 3% to 5.1 bln euros in Latvia and staying flat at 5.8 bln euros in Estonia, shows data published by the European Union's (EU) statistical agency Eurostat on Tuesday.


Over the period, imports in Lithuania fell 5% to 11.8 bln euros, while the figures in Latvia and Estonia were 6 bln euros and 6.7 bln euros, respectively (down by 5% and up by 3%).


Among the three Baltic nations, the biggest trade deficit was reported in Lithuania (1.1 bln euros), as compared with 1 bln euros in Latvia and 0.9 bln euros in Estonia.
