Number of indigent persons in Latvia shrinks in May

The number of indigent people in Latvia kept shrinking also in May 2016, informs LETA, according to the Welfare Ministry’s data.

The registered share of poor people in May reached 2.49% of all Latvian residents compared to 2.61% in April and 2.63% in March. In February, this number had risen to 2.64%, in January 2016 and December 2015 this number was 2.6%.

 

The number of poor people registered in Latvia reached 48,892 people in May, down 2,286 people from April.

 

According to the Central Statistical Bureau, the number of population in Latvia dropped by 1,900 people to 1,962,700 in May.

 

In May, the financing used for social benefits by local governments has also declined to EUR 3,144,862 compared to EUR 3,744,087 used for this purpose in April. The number of social benefits recipients in May dropped by 5,342 people to 46,616.
