Lithuania's 2015 food prices among EU's lowest

Prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages in Lithuania in 2015 were among the lowest across the European Union (EU), figures from the EU statistical office Eurostat showed on June 15th, informs LETA/BNS.

The level of food prices made 78% of the EU average last year.

 

Lower prices were reported in Poland (63% of the EU average), Romania (64%) and Bulgaria (70%).

 

Bread prices in Lithuania accounted for 77% of the EU average in 2015, meat for 63%, milk, cheese and eggs for 85%. In 2015, prices for alcoholic beverages made 88% of the EU average and tobacco 56%.

 

In Latvia, prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages last year made 89% of the EU average, while alcoholic beverages made 88% and tobacco 59%. The respective figures in Estonia were 88%, 104% and 62%.
