BC, Tallinn, 06.06.2016.Print version
Estonia placed 39th among 163 countries in the Good Country Index ranking compiled by the international policy consultant Simon Anholt, informs LETA/BNS.

Of the seven categories, Estonia ranks the highest or 11th in culture, while the country's lowest position is 129th in the category of prosperity and equality.

The index measures the contribution of 163 countries to the world in seven categories of achievement relative to the size of their economy. The categories are science and technology, culture, international peace and security, world order, planet and climate, prosperity and equality, and health and well-being.

In science and technology Estonia placed 32nd, in health and wellbeing 42nd and in international peace and security 56th, while in world order it placed 67th and in planet and in climate 89th.

In the ranking published for the second time Sweden placed first, followed by Denmark, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany, Finland, Canada, France, Austria and New Zealand. The United States placed 21st, Russia 72nd, Latvia 40th and Lithuania 49th.

The Good Country Index is one of a series of projects we’ll be launching over the coming months and years to start a global debate about what countries are really for. Do they exist purely to serve the interests of their own politicians, businesses and citizens, or are they actively working for all of humanity and the whole planet? The debate is a critical one, because if the first answer is the correct one, we’re all in deep trouble.
