BC, Vilnius, 31.05.2016.Print version
Lithuania slipped two places to 30th among 61 nations in the 2016 world competitiveness ranking 2016 released by the Swiss-based International Institute for Management Development (IMD). Latvia rose six places to 37th in this year's ranking and Estonia stayed at number 31st, informs LETA/BNS.

Lithuania's best performance this year is in education and in management practices, where it is ranked 19th, and its worst performance is in international investment (50) and domestic economy (47).

Lithuania ranks 45th in the broader economic performance category, 24th in government efficiency, 28th in business efficiency and 29th in infrastructure.

From a list of 15 indicators, respondents in a survey of business executives selected skilled workforce (83.3%), high educational level (81.7%) and reliable infrastructure (76.7%) as the country's "key attractiveness indicators".

Lithuania was first included in the ranking in 2007.

The USA has surrendered its status as the world’s most competitive economy after being overtaken by China Hong Kong and Switzerland, according to the IMD World Competitiveness Center.

The sheer power of the economy of the USA is no longer sufficient to keep it at the top of the prestigious World Competitiveness Ranking, which it has led for the past three years.

The 2016 edition ranks China Hong Kong first, Switzerland second and the USA third, with Singapore, Sweden, Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway and Canada completing the top 10.
