Half software in use in Latvia is pirated

Although unlicensed computer software is closely connected to increased cyber threats, 49% of computer software in use in Latvia are pirated, a study by Business Software Alliance (BSA) shows, cites LETA.
According to the BSA study, the percentage of unlicensed software in Latvia reached 53% in 2013.
Meanwhile, the proportion of pirated software in the world has dropped to 39% from 43% in 2013.
The highest percentage of unlicensed software, 61%, has been recorded in the Asia Pacific region, followed by Central and Eastern Europe with 58% and the Middle East and Africa with 57%.
In Western Europe, the share of pirated software is 28%, but the best situation is in North America where only 17% of computer software is illegal.
