74% Latvian Internet users are also online shoppers

Most Internet users in Latvia, or 74%, also shop at online stores, a survey by Gemius online research agency shows, cites LETA.

More than half of respondents that shop on the Internet, or 52%, are women, and 48% of the online shoppers are men.

 

The vast majority of online shoppers use Latvian e-commerce websites, but relatively many users also make purchases on European (77%), Chinese (55%), U.S. (42%) and other countries' e-commerce websites.

 

The best-selling categories of goods on the Internet include tickets to entertainment events (76%), clothing, accessories and footwear (70%), insurance (66%), aviation and other transport tickets (66%), smartphones, computers and related equipment (63%).

 

The most often cited reason for shopping online, named by 79% of respondents in the poll, is that goods and services can be bought on the Internet for lower prices than at conventional stores.

 

The most popular e-commerce websites in Latvia include ss.lv advertising portal (45%), salidzini.lv price comparing portal (29%) and 220.lv online store (29%).

 

Nearly one third of respondents named ebay.com as the most popular foreign e-commerce website, and one fifth said they shopped at aliexpress.com, followed by amazon.com (10%), sportsdirect.com (9%).

 

Gemius conducted the online survey from February 18 to 29, polling 2,294 respondents, aged 18 to 69.
