Over three million persons visited accredited museums in Latvia in 2015, which was the largest ever, informs LETA.

During a Saeima Education, Culture and Science Committee meeting today, Ministry of Culture State Secretary Sandis Voldins emphasized that such a high number of visitors was achieved despite the fact that the Latvian National Museum of History, Riga Motor Museum, as well as several other museums were closed for most of the year due to renovations works.

Voldins points also points out that Latvian theaters and the Latvian National Opera and Ballet have also shown good attendance results between 2013 and 2015 despite the decline in Latvia's population. He said that their revenue has also been on the increase.

For example, Voldins points out that the Latvian National Opera and Ballet's attendance was at 91% last year.

At the same time, last year was also a good year for libraries, which also saw increases in activity, mostly due to the virtual services many now offer.
