Estonian justice system among EU's most efficient ones

Estonian justice system is one of the most efficient ones in the European Union based on several indicators, it can be seen from the EU Justice Scoreboard 2016 published this week, informs LETA/BNS.

In Estonia, civil and commercial cases were solved in 125 days on average in 2014, which is the third best result after Luxembourg and Lithuania, spokespeople for the Ministry of Justice said. In Luxembourg, it took 103 days and in Lithuania 97 days. The bottom two were Malta and Cyprus with respectively 532 and 638 days.

 

It took 141 days to solve administrative cases in Estonia's first-tier court, which is the fourth best result, while Slovenia came first with an average of 112 days.



 

Estonia places fourth when comparing the number of pending cases per 100 inhabitants and Estonia's indicator was 1.6, while in 2012 it was 2.8.

 

Estonia was in the first half of the chart also when comparing the perceived independence of courts and judges with a score of 5.7, while the top three was comprised of Finland with a score of 6.6 and Denmark and the Netherlands with 6.3 points. The lowest score or 2.6 was measured in Slovakia.

 

While in Estonia 29 euros is spent on courts per person, in Luxembourg the sum is 179 euros and in Cyprus it is 25 euros.
