About 70 cases of corruption, shadow economy reported to Latvian Delna annually

BC, Riga, 11.04.2016.Print version
Delna non-governmental organization, which is the Latvian branch of Transparency International, every year receives about 70 reports from both corporate entities and individuals about cases of corruption and shadow economy, Delna’s representatives told LETA on April 11th.

Janis Volberts, the new head of Delna, said a special room will be installed in the organization’s premises in Riga for confidential meetings with whistle-blowers, who have chosen to report their suspicions to Delna.

It is Delna’s intention to offer an alternative to people, who want to report incidents of corruption and shadow economy confidentially, possibly because they do not trust the government agencies. That way Delna could help the State Revenue Service, for example.

Delna’s staff review the reports about alleged violations by themselves and in cooperation with the Riga Graduate School of Law which is going to build a pro bono relationship with law offices which would help dealing with those reports.
