The foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to EUR 210.5 mln in 2015

Statistics Lithuania informs that, based on non-final data obtained from customs declarations, Intrastat reporting and VAT returns data, exports in December 2015 amounted to EUR 1 882.3 million, imports – EUR 2 092.8 million. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin amounted to EUR 1 076 million. The foreign trade deficit of Lithuania amounted to EUR 210.5 million.

Over the month (December 2015, against November), exports decreased by 8.4, imports – by 1.3%. 

 

The decrease in exports was influenced by a decrease in exports of petroleum products (13.5%), optical, photographic, measuring, checking instruments and apparatus and parts and accessories thereof (35.1%), and furniture (16.4%). The decrease in imports was determined by a decrease in imports of optical, photographic, measuring, checking instruments and apparatus and parts and accessories thereof (39.9%) and electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (8.1%). Mineral products excluded, exports decreased by 7.3, imports – by 7.6%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 9.7%, mineral products excluded – also by 9.7%.

 

Over the year (December 2015, against December 2014), exports decreased by 1.4%, while imports increased by 1.8%. The decrease in exports was determined by a decrease in exports of petroleum products (17.1%) and boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances, parts thereof (16.3%). A decrease in the value of exported petroleum products was conditioned by price drop for petroleum. The increase in imports was determined by an increase in imports of ground vehicles (24.8%) and electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (21%). Mineral products excluded, exports increased by 1.6, imports – by 3.7%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 0.4%, mineral products excluded – increased by 5.8%.

In 2015, against 2014, exports decreased by 5.7, imports – by 1.9%. The decrease in exports was influenced by a decrease in exports of petroleum products (12.4%), ground vehicles (25.7%), and boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances and parts thereof (10.7%). The decrease in imports was determined by a decrease in imports of crude petroleum (19.5%) and edible vegetables (27.3%). A decrease in the value of exported petroleum products and imported crude petroleum was conditioned by price drop for petroleum. Mineral products excluded, exports decreased by 4.3%, while imports increased by 1.8%. Exports of goods of Lithuanian origin decreased by 2.4%, mineral products excluded – increased by 2.7%. Exports to Russia decreased by 38.2%, of goods of Lithuanian origin – by 47%, which was mainly conditioned by a decrease in exports of milk and dairy products (94.3%), electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof (82.1%), and ground vehicles (75.7%); meat and edible meat offal was not exported at all. Exports of food and agricultural products (CN sections I–IV) to Russia dropped by 54.5%, of food and agricultural products of Lithuanian origin – by 71.7% (in 2014, exports of such products amounted to EUR 221.8 million, in 2015 – EUR 62.7 million).

 

In 2015, the most important Lithuania's partners in exports were Russia (13.7%), Latvia (9.8%), Poland (9.7%), and Germany (7.8%), in imports – Russia (16.9%), Germany (11.5%), Poland (10.3%), and Latvia (7.6%). Most of the goods of Lithuanian origin were exported to Germany (10.6%), Latvia (7.9%), the United States (7.3%), Poland (6.7%), and the United Kingdom (6.6%).

 

In 2015, the largest share in Lithuania's exports and imports fell within mineral products (16.6 and 21.4% respectively), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (14.8 and 17.9% respectively), and products of the chemical or allied industries (10.8 and 12.1% respectively). As for the goods of Lithuanian origin, the largest share in exports fell within mineral products (22.1%), miscellaneous manufactured articles (11%), products of the chemical or allied industries (8.9%), prepared foodstuffs, beverages, spirits and vinegar, tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (7.8%).
