Summary of Maris Kucinskis' coalition agreement

Agency LETA has obtained full text of the coalition agreement that the Union of Greens and Farmers, National Alliance (All For Latvia-For Fatherland And Freedom/LNNK) and Unity – the political parties that will make up the new government – are planning to sign on February 11, 2016.

The agreement states that the new government will be headed by Maris Kucinskis (Greens Farmers) and include the following ministers: Deputy Prime Minister and Economics Minister Arvils Aseradens (Unity), Defense Minister Raimonds Bergmanis (Greens/Farmers), Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (Unity), Finance Minister Dana Reizniece-Ozola (Greens/Farmers), Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis (Unity), Education and Science Minister Karlis Sadurskis (Unity), Culture Minister Dace Melbarde (National Alliance), Welfare Minister Janis Reirs (Unity), Transport Minister Uldis Augulis (Greens/Farmers), Justice Minister Dzintars Rasnacs (National Alliance), Health Minister Guntis Belevics (Greens/Farmers), Environmental Protection and Regional Development Minister Kaspars Gerhards (National Alliance), Agriculture Minister Janis Duklavs (Greens/Farmers).

 

The agreement includes several sections. The first deals with the general provisions – the coalition parties' obligations to each other and relations with the opposition, civic society and the media, responsibility for each minister and the entire government's work, implementation of priorities stated in the government's declaration, all ministers' responsibility to express the same position on foreign policy matters, and others.

 

The second section describes work of the Coalition Council and the various formats at which coalition parties will meet. The third and fourth sections deal with relations between the Cabinet of Ministers and Saeima groups of cooperation partners and non-partisan Saeima members.

 

The fifth section lays down the rights and duties of the prime minister, and the final section includes coalition partners' signatures.
