1 out of 5 Internet users in Lithuania experience security problems in 2015

BC, Vilnius, 08.02.2016.Print version
One out of five Internet users in Lithuania last year experienced security-related issues over the Internet, figures from the EU statistical office Eurostat showed on Monday, cites LETA/BNS.

19% of Lithuania's Internet users said that they had caught a virus or other computer infection in 2015, down by 15 percentage points from 34% in 2010.

However, security problems did not discourage Lithuanians from using Internet services.

Only 6% of Internet users in the country said that security concerns had prevented them from ordering goods or services online. 4% said that security concerns had kept them from e-banking activities and a mere 3% did not use the Internet with a mobile device via a wireless connection outside their home. These percentage rates were among the lowest in the EU.

18% of Internet users in Latvia and 28% in Estonia experienced security-related problems last year.

In the EU, the proportion of Internet users stood at 25%.

The lowest percentages of users who experienced security issues over the Internet were in the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and Slovakia, and the highest percentages were in Croatia, Hungary and Portugal.
