Lithuania’s jobless rate climbs to 9.4% in early February

Lithuania’s unemployment rate stood at 9.4% in early February 2016, up by 0.4 percentage points compared with a month ago, but down by 0.2 points year-on-year, data from the country's Labor Exchange showed on Friday, cites LETA/BNS.

There were 169,500 registered unemployed persons in the country on Feb. 1, up by 4.2% from early January, but down 3.1% from a year ago.

 

The employers registered 21,300 new job vacancies last month, up by 6.9% month-on-month and up by 9% year-on-year.

 

Some 46.6% of the unemployed were women and 53.4% were men. The number of long-term unemployed persons decreased by 13.6% year-on-year to 45,900 (27.1% of the total number of registered unemployed persons).

 

Among the largest cities, the unemployment rates ranged from the low of 6.5% in Vilnius and Siauliai to the high of 8.9% in Panevezys.
