36% Latvian residents in 2014 were smokers

The proportion of Latvian residents, who smoke has increased in 2014, reaching 36%, reports LETA, according to the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

In 2014, there were 2% more smokers in the 15 to 64 age group than in 2013 and 2012. Overall, 52% of men and 23% of woman in this age group were smokers.

 

Meanwhile, the number of teenage smokers between the ages of 13 to 15 has dropped by 32% since 2011 to 17% in 2014.

 

According to statistics, there has also been a gradual increase in persons smoking electronic cigarettes.
