Estonia placed 31st among 142 countries, moving up one place compared to the 2014 index. Of Estonia's neighbors Finland placed ninth, Latvia 40th, Lithuania 41st and Russia 58th.

Altogether eight indicators are taken into account when calculating the index. The eight indicators are: economy, entrepreneurship and opportunity, governance, education, health, safety and security, personal freedom, and social capital.

Estonia's best results were in the fields of governance, entrepreneurship and opportunity, and social capital where Estonia placed respectively 23rd, 26th and 30th.

In the field of economy Estonia placed 35th, in safety and security 36th, in education 39th, in health 40th and in personal freedom 61st.

Burundi, Chad, Haiti, Afghanistan and the Central African Republic finished last in the table.
