Euro area recorded a EUR 11.2 bln surplus in trade with the rest of the world in August

The first estimate for euro area exports of goods to the rest of the world in August 2015 was EUR 148.3 billion, an increase of 6% compared with August 2014 (EUR 140.5 billion). Imports from the rest of the world stood at EUR 137.1 billion, a rise of 3% compared with August 2014 (EUR 133.1 billion). As a result, the euro area recorded a EUR 11.2 billion surplus in trade in goods with the rest of the world in August 2015, compared with a EUR 7.4 billion surplus in August 2014, writes LETA/ELTA.

Intra-euro area trade rose to EUR 114.7 billion in August 2015, up by 2% compared with August 2014, Eurostat, he statistical office of the European Union, said.

 

In January to August 2015, euro area exports of goods to the rest of the world rose to EUR 1,346.0 billion (an increase of 6% compared with January-August 2014), while imports rose to EUR 1,189.0 billion (an increase of 3% compared with January-August 2014). As a result, the euro area recorded a surplus of EUR 156.9 billion, compared with a surplus of EUR 104.5 billion in January-August 2014. Intra-euro area trade rose to EUR 1,113.2 billion in January-August 2015, up by 3% compared with January-August 2014.

 

The first estimate for extra-EU exports of goods in August 2015 was EUR 131.8 billion, up by 7% compared with August 2014 (EUR 123.1 billion). Imports from the rest of the world stood at EUR 134.1 billion, up by 1% compared with August 2014 (EUR 133.1 billion). As a result, the EU recorded a EUR 2.3 billion deficit in trade in goods with the rest of the world in August 2015, compared with a 10.0 billion deficit in August 2014. Intra-EU trade rose to EUR 215.3 billion in August 2015, a rise of 4% compared with August 2014.

 

In January to August 2015, extra-EU exports of goods rose to EUR 1,182.5 billion (an increase of 7% compared with January-August 2014), while imports rose to EUR 1,149.8 billion (an increase of 3% compared with January-August 2014). As a result, the EU recorded a surplus of EUR 32.7 billion, compared with a deficit of EUR 12.7 billion in January-August 2014. Intra-EU trade rose to EUR 2,014.0 billion in January-August 2015, a rise of 5% compared with January-August 2014.

 

Lithuania's extra-EU export of goods in January-August 2015 was EUR 5.5 billion, a decrease of 21% compared with January-August 2014. Imports from the rest of world amounted to EUR 5.7 billion, a decrease of 1% compared with January-August 2014. As a result, Lithuania recorded a deficit of EUR 0.2 billion in trade in goods with the rest of world in January-August 2015.

 

Lithuania's intra-EU export of goods in January-August 2015 was EUR 9.4 billion, an increase of 7% compared with January-August 2014. Lithuania's intra-EU import of goods amounted to EUR 11.1 billion, an increase of 1%. Therefore, Lithuania recorded a deficit of EUR 1.8 billion in trade in goods with the EU.

 

As a result, in January-August 2015 Lithuania posted a deficit in trade in goods with the EU and the rest of world totalling EUR 2 billion. In January-August 2014 Lithuania's trade deficit totalled EUR 1.1 billion.
