Eurostat: Unemployment level in eurozone remains at 11%

The seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in the eurozone was at 11 % in August 2015, and thus remained unchanged from July 2015, according to the latest data presented by the EU statistical bureau Eurostat, writes LETA.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate in the European Union in August stood at 9.5 %. This is the lowest EU unemployment level since June of 2011.


"Eurostat" estimates that 23.022 mln. men and women in the EU, of whom 17.603 mln. were in the euro area, were unemployed in August 2015.


Compared to July, the number of unemployed persons in the EU reduced by 33,000, but in the eurozone - by 1,000.


Meanwhile, when compared to August of 2014, the number of unemployed persons in the EU reduced by 1.49 mln., but in the eurozone - by 892,000.


The largest unemployment level in August was registered in Spain - 22.2 %, followed by Croatia - 15.5 %, and Cyprus - 15.3 %.


Unemployment in Greece was at 25.2 %, but this data was from the month of June, not August.


The smallest unemployment level was registered in Germany - 4.5 %, followed by the Czech Republic - 5 %, and Malta - 5.1 %.


The unemployment level in Latvia in August was at 9.9 %, but in Lithuania - 9.6 %. In Estonia, the unemployment level was at 5.7 % in July.
